Tropheus African Cichlids
We recommend a colony of 20+ individuals of 1 species to display their best colors, encourage natural schooling behavior, and reduce aggression. Smaller groups often fail to meet these needs as the fish mature, leading to stress, poor coloration, and increased territoriality.
A 75‑gallon (48″ × 18″ × 21″) aquarium can indeed work for a colony of 20–25 adult Tropheus cichlids if you provide proper filtration, stable water parameters, and weekly water changes.
The larger the aquarium, the bigger the colony you can keep.
Care:
Strict Herbivore diet. Spirulina veggie flakes works best. Feed light feedings 2 times a day. Use aquarium lights that are set on a timer. Water changes weekly are a must. Tropheus don't like changes, so keep everything on a routine schedule. Please do plenty of research on tropheus. Knowledge is always best to have great success!
